Environment Conservation
Matrix Society works with communities, government bodies, and CSR partners to promote climate action, revive water bodies, build irrigation infrastructure, and protect the natural environment.
Committed to a Sustainable Planet
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. While some shifts occur naturally, since the 1800s human activities — primarily the burning of fossil fuels — have been the main driver. The consequences include intense droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, and declining biodiversity.
Matrix Society recognises that environmental sustainability is inseparable from human development. We are committed to sensitising communities at every project location on environmental and climatic issues. We partner with state and central government departments and private organisations to promote environmental conservation and climate action at the community level.
Our flagship Jaldoot Program in Haryana exemplifies this commitment — mapping and reviving natural water bodies, promoting rainwater harvesting, and building water management capacity across hundreds of villages in Nuh and Gurugram districts. We have also conducted environmental conservation campaigns across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and Delhi.
Why It Matters
The Environmental Challenge in India
- India faces severe water stress — over 600 million people are exposed to high to extreme water stress annually.
- Deforestation, groundwater depletion, and poor rainwater harvesting are critical challenges in rural India.
- Climate change disproportionately affects the rural poor who depend on agriculture and natural resources for survival.
- Community-level awareness and infrastructure investment are essential to achieve sustainable environmental outcomes
- Reviving traditional water bodies and promoting efficient irrigation can significantly improve farmer incomes and food security.
- Solar-powered irrigation reduces dependence on costly diesel pumps, cutting costs for small and marginal farmers.
Our Environmental Interventions
Water Body Mapping & Revival
Identifying, mapping, and reviving traditional water bodies — ponds, stepwells, and tanks — in rural communities to restore natural water recharge and availability.
Rainwater Harvesting Promotion
Promoting and building rainwater harvesting infrastructure in villages across Haryana and other program states to increase water availability during dry seasons.
Water Resource Management Training
Training communities in efficient irrigation, groundwater management, and sustainable water usage practices through capacity-building workshops.
Solar Irrigation Infrastructure
Installing solar-powered pumps at gram panchayats to enable sustainable, low-cost irrigation for small and marginal farmers — reducing diesel dependence.
Environmental Awareness Campaigns
Community campaigns on climate change, pollution, waste management, afforestation, and conservation in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and Delhi.
Government Scheme Connectivity
Connecting rural communities to central and state government schemes related to water, environment, and sustainable agriculture.
Village-Level Environmental Surveys
Comprehensive surveys of villages for drinking water availability, groundwater levels, rainwater harvesting potential, and irrigation facility access.
Ongoing & Completed Projects
Jaldoot Program
- Nuh & Gurugram, Haryana
Nuh & Gurugram Districts, Haryana Details: Implemented by Matrix Society across multiple districts of Haryana, Jaldoot was focused on mapping and reviving natural water bodies, promoting rainwater harvesting, and building community capacity in water resource management. The program covered 475 villages in Nuh District and 274 villages in Gurugram District. Over 40,000 people were directly impacted through capacity building sessions, infrastructure surveys, and onground support. The program is one of the most comprehensive water management
initiatives undertaken by Matrix Society.

Water Survey Program
- Nuh, Haryana
900+ Villages, Nuh District, Haryana Details:
Under the Jaldoot umbrella, more than 900 villages in Nuh District were surveyed for
drinking water availability, groundwater levels, rainwater harvesting potential, and irrigation facility access. Survey findings were used to prioritise infrastructure investments, plan capacity building sessions, and guide water management interventions at the village level.

Rural Irrigation Infrastructure
- Chatra, Jharkhand
Chatra District, Jharkhand Details: Under our Rural Development program, Matrix Society developed rural irrigation infrastructure in Chatra District, Jharkhand. 73 solar-powered pumps were installed at various gram panchayats to provide sustainable, cost-effective irrigation to low-income group farmers — significantly reducing their dependence on expensive diesel-powered alternatives and lowering irrigation costs.

Environmental Conservation & Awareness Campaigns
- Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and Delhi
Multi-State Details: Matrix Society, in association with various government and private stakeholders, has organised multiple campaigns focused on environmental conservation and restoration across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and Delhi. Activities include tree plantation drives, water body cleaning initiatives, waste management awareness sessions, and climate change education at the community level — reaching thousands of community members annually
